What are the different types of koala bears?

There are three recognized subspecies of koala bears based on where in Australia they reside. One type of koala is from northern Queensland, one type is from New South Wales and one type is from Victoria.
The main difference among the different koala subspecies is that the koalas in the south, the Victorian koalas, are larger and have thicker and darker fur. This is likely an evolutionary trait due to the fact that winters in south Australia are colder than in the north. The Queensland koalas are the smallest and have short, silver-colored fur. The features of the New South Wales koalas are a mixture of the features of the other two.
