Some of the types of Medicaid plans are those for the disabled, elderly, children, pregnant women, some families and people who aren't United States citizens, aren't eligible for managed care plans or require long-term medical care. Although the federal government created the Medicaid program, each state offers its own selection of Medicaid plans and sets different eligibility requirements to receive benefits.

Medicaid programs are generally for people with low incomes or disabilities, and applicants must verify that they have a disability that prevents them from working a job or submit documentation that they meet the low income requirement. Those who qualify may receive both medical and dental care, depending on the program, but they must use doctors and dentists that contract with Medicaid.
