What are the different types of moose?
By Forinfos - 17/02/2026 - 0 comments
Scientists recognize five subspecies of moose globally, including the eastern moose, the Peterson moose, the Alaska moose and the Shiras moose. Although the Eurasian elk is often considered a type of moose, some scientists believe they are a separate species due to differences in karyotype, bodily dimensions and bodily structures.
The moose is the largest member of the deer family. The preferred habitats of moose include wetlands, shrub lands and conifer or hardwood forests. The moose's long legs allow it to easily traverse snow and escape predators by standing its ground or fleeing to bodies of water. Male moose have prominent antlers that can weigh more than 77 pounds.
