Are digital dashboards legal on cars?

Laws are different from state to state on the use of digital equipment on the dashboard of a car, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. Video screens are banned by law from the dashboard in many states.

Many states have restrictions on the types of digital devices that can be within a driver's range of sight in the front seat, notes the Consumer Electronics Association. In spite of the restrictions, many car manufacturers are outfitting new car dashboards with much more advanced digital technology than in years past, shares Engineering and Technology magazine. However, many of the dashboard electronics installations are specifically designed to take safety into account.
