What are the dimensions of a soccer field?

There is no hard and fast rule about the length and width of a soccer field, sometimes known as a football pitch; however, the length usually needs to be between 100 and 130 yards long between the goal lines and between 50 and 100 yards wide between the touchlines. Soccer fields vary in size based on the skill levels of the participants.

Youth soccer fields will always be smaller than those at the high school, college and professional level. Other important dimensions are the penalty area, which is 44 yards wide and 18 yards deep; the inner box, known as the 6-yard box, which is 6 yards deep and 20 yards wide; and the goal, which is 8 feet high and 24 feet wide.
