N2F4 is the chemical formula for the chemical compound tetrafluorohydrazine or dinitrogen tetrafluoride. It is a colorless inorganic gas that is extremely hazardous. It is produced from nitrogen trifluoride, an inorganic gas that is toxic, colorless and nonflammable, using iron or iron(II) fluoride.
Dinitrogen tetrafluoride is a highly toxic gas that explodes if it comes into contact with reducing agents at normal temperatures such as ammonia, boranes, alcohols and hydrogen. It can also explode at high temperatures. It may be fatal if inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
Dinitrogen tetrafluoride is used in chemical synthesis, as a catalyst or a precursor. It is also an oxidizing agent in rocket fuel.
