What are disadvantages of fiber optic cable?

Installation is a labor-intensive and time-consuming undertaking, even though it yields improved communications. Fiber optic cables are fragile, so they must have strong protective sheathing to suit the environment where they are to be fixed. In addition, they have higher costs for electronic end terminals, and they are very difficult to split; electronic end-terminal units have to be used.
