Two discontinued lines of Spode China include the Blue Room and the Italian Blue lines. Two of the original and most popular patterns that are still in production include the Woodland and the Christmas Tree.
Established in 1770 by Josiah Spode, Spode Pottery began production with the blue-on-pearl line, and the pottery was most noted for its deep cobalt blue color. The company perfected their China using a mix of burnt animal bone along with quartz and feldspar. The result was an extremely durable, translucent and inexpensive to manufacture line of China. Spode Pottery was purchased by Portmeirion in April 2009, but the company continues to use the name Royal Worcester Spode.
