Who discovered nuclear fusion?

Robert d'Escourt Atkinson and Friedrich George "Fritz" Houtermans first discovered the origins of nuclear fusion in 1929. They are credited with discovering that the fusing of nuclei creates energy by following Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Although Atkinson and Houtermans first discovered the origins of nuclear fusion, a number of scientists after that contributed to the development of nuclear fusion, including Mark Oliphant, Hans Bethe, Enrico Fermi, George Paget Thomson, Moses Blackman, and Edward Teller and Stanislaw Ulam at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The first successful test of nuclear fusion, called Greenhouse Item, happened on May 25, 1951, and was conducted by American scientists.
