Discovery Bay is located in the eastern part of Contra Costa County, Calif. It is approximately 60 miles away from the city of San Francisco.

The population of Discovery Bay was measured to be 13,352 in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The town was primarily a resort destination during the weekends and summer season when it was established in the 1700s. Discovery Bay received its own zip code in July 2007 after sharing one for many years with Byron, Calif. The town has a total area of 7 square miles, with less than a square mile being water.
