Some diseases that affect white pine trees are blister rust, needle blight, ozone damage, and annosus root and butt rot. Disease damage ranges from aesthetic problems to death of the tree.

White pines are evergreens that have a rapid growth rate. They are commonly used to landscape homes, businesses and parks. Prior to purchasing white pines, examine seedlings and nursery plants for signs of disease. The disease annosus root and butt rot is spread by a fungus. The fungus can gradually or rapidly kill white pines. Needle blight and ozone damage are not fatal, but they do affect the tree's appearance.
