What dissolves silicone?

Silicone can be dissolved with a variety of solvents available online or in hardware stores. These products are sometimes called silicone eaters, and they work on both cured and freshly applied silicone.

Most products developed to dissolve silicone are oil based and have a strong odor that requires proper ventilation when used. To reduce effects of prolonged exposure to skin, it is also a good idea to use gloves when handling silicone eaters. Silicone can also be removed manually by applying rubbing alcohol and scraping with a blade or a craft knife. This takes longer but is an alternative to chemical-based products.
