Is dizziness a sign of pregnancy?

The Mayo Clinic reports that dizziness may be a sign of pregnancy. Pregnancy causes blood vessels to dilate, which can drop the blood pressure. As a result, a light-headed feeling or dizziness may occur.

While dizziness may occur, the Mayo Clinic specifies that other symptoms may be apparent during pregnancy, such as vomiting, vaginal bleeding, cramping, mood swings, fatigue and food cravings. Because dizziness is not unique to pregnancy, individuals should not assume they are pregnant because they are dizzy. Additionally, a person may become pregnant and not experience some of these symptoms. It is recommended that individuals see their health care providers before self-diagnosing a pregnancy.
