Most licensed doctors can provide safe earwax removal at a clinic or hospital, according to WebMD. Patients should visit a doctor, ideally the patient's primary care physician, for earwax removal and analysis if the patient suffers from loss of balance, sudden loss of hearing, vomiting or fever.

Doctors remove earwax by using a curette, prescription-strength eardrops, warmed water or sodium bicarbonate, claims WebMD. Curettes are small plastic spoons that doctors use to remove the earwax. The alternative method to physically removing earwax is to irrigate the patient's ear. The commonly used irrigants are warmed water, prescription-strength eardrops and sodium bicarbonate.
