Do dogs have belly buttons?

Like humans, dogs have belly buttons located on their abdominal area. The appearance of a dog's belly button, however, is different than that of a human.
A belly button or navel comes from the detachment of the umbilical cord after birth. In the womb, humans and puppies are attached to the mother through the umbilical cord which provides blood, oxygen and nutrients to the growing fetus.
A dog's belly button is not as noticeable than that of a human. It is most visible immediately after birth and is easier to see on short-haired dogs. Unlike a human being, a dog's belly button is located in between its nipples. It often looks like a small, flat scar located just above where the rib cage starts.
