What is a Dopp kit?

A Dopp kit is a small bag used to store men's toiletries when traveling. Dopp kits are typically made out of leather, cloth or vinyl.

Usual items kept in a Dopp kit include a razor, shaving cream, a toothbrush, a comb, deodorant and hair care products. Dopp kits get their name from Charles Doppelt, a German immigrant to the U.S., who invented the toiletry case in 1919. The pouches were referred to as Dopps. Doppelt's invention gained popularity when the U.S. armed forces signed a contract with him for his toiletry bags during World War II. Samsonite bought Doppelt's company in the early 1970s.
