What is a downdraft slide in range?

A downdraft slide-in range is a type of oven and stovetop that features controls on the front of the appliance, above the oven, with a downdraft-style ventilation that recesses into the counter top or appliance. The downdraft can be flush with the stovetop, or retractable, rising in use.
A slide-in range is easier to install than drop-in ranges and simpler to clean, since it sits flush with the kitchen's counter tops. While a downdraft ventilation can have its fan installed away from the kitchen, reducing noise, it is not as effective at ventilating tall pots and mild odors. This is less ideal for individuals with respiratory issues.
