Do dragonflies bite?

Dragonflies do not bite people nor do they sting. This is true despite the fact that they are voracious predators of other insects. Dragonflies eat insects such as mosquitoes, bees and flying ants.

Dragonflies catch their prey in the air. They hold their legs beneath them like a basket to capture their prey more easily as they fly. Then, they eat their prey while they are still mid-air.

Dragonflies are expert fliers.They not only fly forwards but fly backwards and hover for brief periods, as well. Their average cruising speed is 10 mph. Robert John Tillyard, a famous entomologist, claimed to have seen a southern giant darner flying close to 60 mph.
