Drought tolerant plants that grow well in Arizona include acacia, mesquite, yucca, most cacti and certain forms of sage. Some plants only grow well in one or more of Arizona's micro-climates. For example, the state's iconic saguaro cactus does not grow well at high elevations.
Types of cactus that grow well in the state include the fishhook barrel cactus, the hedgehog cactus, the prickly pear and the old man cactus. Sage plants that grow well include green cloud sage and cimmaron sage.
Other drought tolerant plants that grow well in many parts of Arizona include various species of palm and willow trees, as well as many types of agave.
