To dry fresh basil and other herbs, tie two to three rinsed, dried herb stalks together, and hang the stalks upside down in a dry, well-ventilated area. Discard the stems, pulverize the leaves, and store them.

  1. Rinse and dry the herbs

    Wash the herbs under running water, and pat them dry.

  2. Tie the herbs

    Use string or twine to tie two to three stalks of the herbs together.

  3. Hang the stalks upside down

    Hang the stalks upside down in a dry, well-ventilated area of your home for approximately two weeks or until the leaves of the herb are completely dry.

  4. Discard the stems

    Remove the leaves from the stems, and discard the stems.

  5. Pulverize the leaves

    Pulverize the leaves in a food processor.

  6. Store the leaves

    Store the leaves in an airtight container for up to six months.
