Is Dupuytren's disease considered when genetic screenings are done?

Dupuytren's disease is not considered when genetic screenings are done because there are also environmental factors that combine with genetic factors to generate the disease reports the United States National Institutes of Health. However, there are single-nucleotide substitutions that are associated with Dupuytren's disease and these can be tested for in genetic screenings.

If the SNPs are present, it does not mean that the person will have Dupuytren's disease but it is a strong indicator, states the NIH. Dupuytren's disease is actually known as Dupuytren's contracture and involves a thickened and contractured tissue area that crumples the fingers leaving them unable to extend, reports the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
