Chuck E. Cheese was founded by Nolan Bushnell, who is also the co-founder of the video game company Atari.

The mouse mascot for Chuck E. Cheese started out as a cigar-smoking New Jersey rat. The New York Daily News reports that CEC executives once considered naming the rodent "Rick the Rat" but refrained from so at the suggestion of a PR agency. Chuck E. Cheese, the mouse, was officially recognized in 2012, according to Marketplace.
