Antibiotics are not recommended for management of diarrhea as they slow down the digestive system, increasing the risk of other complications, including hemolytic uremic syndrome, according to Mayo Clinic. When the infection has already caused this syndrome, treatment includes kidney dialysis, blood transfusion and IV fluids.
