It is not too early to define standards for platform as a service, according to IDevNews.com, citing a Gartner report. The report states that PaaS is poised for a significant increase in growth over the coming years but is missing well-established leaders and dedicated standards.
The deficiencies may be responsible for some of the hesitancy to take risks with PaaS that is felt by decision makers in the IT community, the report notes.
Wikipedia defines PaaS as an industry model in the area of cloud computing that allows rollout of services and applications without the high cost of buying and managing hardware and other components required for hosting.
