Are Easy Bake ovens safe for children?

Because of a recall on all new Easy-Bake ovens, these children's toys are not actually safe. The hazard listed on the recall is that children are at risk for burns and entrapment within the oven because the entrance is big enough for a child to insert her hands into.

The Easy-Bake oven is made of purple and pink plastic, resembling a real front loading oven, with a picture of four burners on top. Since the in February, there have been a total of 249 reports of children getting their hands or fingers stuck in the oven and 77 reports of burns, 16 of which were second or third-degree burns. Parents and caregivers must follow the recall instructions on Easy-Bake ovens, removing these toys from their children's reach.
