An easy, classic Margarita recipe combines tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, salt and a fresh-cut lime over ice. Sour mix may be used when fresh lime juice is not available, but most prefer the fresh version.
To make this margarita, combine 1 1/2 ounces of tequila, 1/2 ounce of triple sec and 1 ounce of fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Cointreau is a brand of triple sec recommended in this recipe. Shake the ingredients, and rim a chilled margarita glass with salt or sugar. Pour the entire contents of the shaker into the margarita glass, including the ice. Add a lemon wedge to garnish.
A similar recipe uses commercially available sour mix to create margaritas. Again, combine the tequila and triple sec in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Add a dash of lemon or lime juice if available, and mix in 3 ounces of sour mix. Then, pour this into a salted glass. If this recipe is too sour, agave or simple syrup can be added to the drink.
When making a margarita with crushed ice, add 1/2 ounce of lime juice to this recipe. The ingredients should be combined with a cup of ice in a blender. The thickness of the drink can be manipulated by adding more or less ice.
