The formula template for calculating percentages in Microsoft Excel is Part/Total = Percentage. This is nearly identical to the basic mathematical formula for determining percentages, with the only difference being that Excel automatically multiplies the resulting fraction by 100 when the percentage formula is applied to a cell.

For an Excel spreadsheet where the desired dividend is located in cell A1 and the desired divisor is located in cell B1, enter the formula "=A1/B1" into cell C1 to determine the quotient. The Percent Style button, which is located in the Number group under the Home tab, toggles the display of the quotient.
