A five-minute monologue is a dramatic or comedic presentation given by a single individual that lasts for five minutes. Depending on the nature of the monologue, it can convey a single emotion or many over its course.
A monologue is different from a speech or soliloquy because it is delivered for entertainment purposes. A speech is typically a vocalization of an individual's true opinions or feelings. A soliloquy, though it is done out loud, is an address to oneself concerning self-revelation. Monologues are common in theater, television and movies. A comedian's performance is known as a comedic monologue. Late night talk shows often begin with opening monologues.
