Interdisciplinary studies are customized degree programs for college students that allow each student to build a program of study that spans across disciplines and intermingles a broad variety of courses, such as engineering and English or math and art. Interdisciplinary studies also focus on global and economic challenges.
Interdisciplinary study programs are often designed to bridge the gap between academics and real world society issues to help students learn how to produce innovative understandings of the problems of the world, think critically about societal norms, learn cooperatively and develop skills in analytical thinking and research, according to the University of Texas at Arlington.
