The rare autoimmune disorder known as pemphigoid causes blistering and skin rashes on the legs, arms and abdomen as well as potential blistering on the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth, eyes and vagina. Pemphigoid can occur at any age due to a malfunction of the human immune system.
As of 2015, no cure exists for pemphigoid. However, sufferers of pemphigoid can utilize a wide variety of treatment options to effectively relieve the unpleasant symptoms of this disorder. Corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and certain antibiotics can help reduce inflammation, heal blisters and reduce the risk of infection for those afflicted with pemphigoid.
