The phrase "set for life" refers to someone being wealthy enough that they do not have to worry about money for the rest of his life. Often people also use this phrase to say someone is wealthy enough to avoid working again.
The phrase "set for life" is often used to describe celebrities or business people who came into large sums of money at a young age. Someone could also be deemed set for life if he wins the lottery, or accumulates any amount of money exceeding $5 million dollars, enabling him able to retire before the age of 30 or 40.
