Do elephants eat peanuts?

Elephants do not eat peanuts in the wild, and it is not common for them to eat peanuts in captivity either. Due to their extreme size, elephants must spend between 16 and 18 hours a day eating and can consume more than 300 pounds of vegetation in that span.
An elephant's diet typically includes grasses, small plants, bushes, fruit, twigs, roots and tree bark. The elephant's tusks are useful for digging up roots and scraping off tree bark, which is a valuable source of calcium and functions as roughage. Elephants also use their tusks to dig up the earth for salt and minerals. Over time, this behavior can modify the landscape, creating holes and caverns.
