Sugarcane ethanol has the highest net energy output of all crop biofuel systems of transportation. Its net energy output is more than twice that of wheat ethanol or biomethane. One acre of Brazilian sugarcane can produce up to 660 gallons of biofuel.
Brazil is a country that has implemented the use of sugarcane to make biofuel. Greater than half of the country's sugarcane supply goes into ethanol production, which accounts for 20 percent of its fuel supply. Brazil's government has invested in sugarcane producers, distilleries and other components of the infrastructure and manufacturing process. Biofuels are blended with gasoline, and blending ratios vary based on the country using biofuels.
