According to Georgia State University, enzymes are created at ribosomes, which are either embedded in the rough endoplasmic reticulum or free in the cytoplasm. Ribosomes are the site of all protein synthesis, and according to Elmhurst College, the vast majority of enzymes are proteins.
Elmhurst College states that enzymes act as catalysts for chemical reactions, increasing their rate and allowing the cell to produce necessary actions much more efficiently.
According to Georgia State University, the ribosomes that generate enzymes are themselves composed of over 50 proteins plus RNA, and they include machinery that links chains of amino acids into new proteins according to RNA instructions.
