What is EOR?

EOR is an abbreviation for Enhanced Oil Recovery and covers a phase of oil production that utilizes steam or gas during the extraction process. Extraction of oil from wells using EOR typically yields between 30 to 60 percent of the well's original oil reservoir.
As of 2014, there are three methods of oil extraction that are considered EOR. The first is thermal recovery, which involves heating the oil in the well. The second method involves injecting chemicals into the surface tension of the well. The third method is natural gas injection, in which the gas dissolves or mixes with the oil. All three methods increase the oil's ability to flow, making it easier to extract.
