An example of approximate rhyme is linking the two words "ladies" and "bodies" or "on" and "moon" in verse. This type of rhyme exists when two words nearly rhyme, but do not.
Approximate rhyme can be found in poems and songs alike. One well-known example of approximate rhyme appears in Emily Dickinson's poem, "Hope is the thing with feathers." She rhymes the word "soul" with "all" in this piece.
Sometimes, approximate rhyme refers to words that look like they should sound similar but do not, such as "bed" and "bead." Words frequently have approximate rhyme when they share an internal vowel that may or may not be pronounced the same.
