What is an example of a sequential logic circuit?

A bistable gate is an example of a sequential logic circuit. These circuits depend on current input signals as well as a stored history of input signals that have been used in the past in order to determine output.
According to the computer science department at the University of Maryland, sequential logic circuits possess a state. Unlike combination logic circuits, these devices are able to combine both current and past input signals in order to determine their output and function. Bistable gates can be set to one of two states depending on past input, with the state updated in a predictable way according to the circuit's layout.
