What are examples of fluid friction?

Examples of fluid friction include hailstones falling from the atmosphere, the drag of air on an airplane, water slowing the speed of a boat, air slowing a bullet and fish swimming underwater. Fluid friction occurs around a solid object moving through a liquid or gas medium.

One of the major factors that influences fluid friction is terminal velocity. Terminal velocity is the maximum velocity attained by falling objects due to drag against the force of gravity. A baseball reaches terminal velocity at 74 mph and a hailstone reaches that point at 31 mph. A skydiver's terminal velocity is 134 mph. In general the heavier the object, the greater the terminal velocity.
