The biliary system is the drainage system of the liver, pancreas and gallbladder. Stool is typically brown in color due to bile salts released by the liver. If an individual has a liver infection that causes a reduction in bile, or if a blockage prevents bile from leaving the liver, clay-colored stool can result.
