Extended unemployment benefits are not available at the federal and state levels. Congress did not agree to extend the federally funded Emergency Unemployment Compensation program and funding for it expired on Dec. 28, 2013.
EUC provided a continuation of unemployment benefits for a recipient after the individual's eligibility under state programs had expired. The federal government, through its Department of Labor, gave full reimbursement to states and territories, which dispensed the funds to recipients.
The Senate approved a bill, on April 7, 2014, to reauthorize the program. The bill was not put before the House of Representatives for a vote before the 113th Congress ended.
