Where is the extensor carpi radialis brevis located?

According to Get Body Smart, the extensor carpi radialis brevis is a muscle located in the posterior forearm above the wrist. It connects the hand and forearm. It extends from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus to the base of the third metacarpal on the back of the hand.

Like many medical terms, this muscle's name consists of Latin words, notes Wikipedia. These words describe the location of the muscle: extensor means to stretch out; carpi relates to the wrist; radialis refers to a rod or spoke; and brevis means short. This latter part of the name helps distinguish this muscle from the longer one, above the wrist, with the same name.
