Humans are in the Hominidae family in Linnaean classification. Members of this family are called hominids. Orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos, considered the great apes, are also members of the Hominidae family.
Humans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos are in the Homininae subfamily of the Hominidae family. The orangutans are in their own subfamily called Ponginae. The Homininae subfamily is further subdivided into two tribes. Humans and their ancestors, including Neanderthals and Homo erectus, are in the Hominini tribe. The other tribe, Gorillini, contains gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos and their evolutionary ancestors. The entire Hominidae family is in the order of Primates.
