Some family members of George Jung include his father, Christian Frederick Jung; his mother, Ermine Jung; his wife, Mirtha Calderon Jung and his daughter, Kristina Sunshine Jung. Jung met his wife Mirtha while working for the Medellin Cartel as a drug smuggler.

George Jung is a convicted drug smuggler. He was first arrested in Chicago in 1967 for possession of 660 pounds of marijuana. He was subsequently arrested multiple times for smuggling harder drugs such as cocaine. As of 2015, he was last arrested in 1994 in Topeka, Kansas, and sentenced to 60 years in prison. He only served 20 years of the sentence and was released June 2, 2014.
