Can babies eat mushrooms?

Infants should not consume mushrooms until at least six months of age or older. The mildest, best tasting and safest mushrooms for babies are pre-washed, pre-sliced cremini mushrooms. Raw mushrooms should never be eaten by babies -or adults- because of the risk of bacteria intake.
Cooked mushrooms are recommended, as they are more suitable to a baby's palette, but should be diced to small pieces to eliminate choking hazards.
While commonly thought to have very little nutritional value, many of mushrooms are high in fiber and provide important vitamins -including niacin, riboflavin, thiamine and vitamin C- making for a healthy supplement to any diet.
