How fast does a hockey puck travel?

The fastest puck speed ever recorded in an ice hockey event was 110.3 miles per hour. The slap shot by Russia's Denis Kulyash came at the CHL All-Star Skills Competition on Feb. 5, 2011.

The slap shot results in a significantly faster puck speed than the wrist, backhand and other types of shots. Shots from numerous current and former NHL stars, including Al Iafrate, Sheldon Souray, Steven Stamkos, Shea Weber and Zdeno Chara have been clocked at over 100 mph. The slap and wrist shots of Hall of Famer Bobby Hull were reportedly clocked at 118.3 and 105 miles per hour in the 1960s, though the reliability of technology at the time does not rival that of today.
