What is a federal prosecutor?

A federal prosecutor is an attorney who represents the interests of the United States and U.S. citizens in criminal cases. The prosecutor must be licensed to practice law in the state in which he or she will practice law before being eligible to serve as a federal prosecutor.

Although federal prosecutors often work in courtrooms, they also perform duties in offices and other locations. Travel is sometimes required for federal prosecutors. Completing interrogations, working with the public and performing job duties similar to other prosecutors are all part of the job description for a person serving as a federal prosecutor.
