Fiddler crabs, like other members of the subphylum Crustacea, produce eggs as the means of reproduction. During courtship, the large claw of the male fiddler crab is used to attract the female. Females choose males that have the largest claws, and they lay their eggs in the male's burrow.
Mangroves and brackish waters near mud or sand are ideal habitats of the fiddler crab, which is found in West Africa, the Western Atlantic, the Indo-Pacific and the Eastern Pacific. The fiddler crab is omnivorous and eats anything edible, including algae, microbes and detritus. The trademark waving motion of the fiddler crab is used to communicate.
