What does "FIFA" mean?

FIFA is an acronym for the Federation Internationale de Football Association. It is the international governing body of soccer, formed in 1904 and based in Zurich, Switzerland.

As soccer's governing body, FIFA performs administrative tasks related to the sport, resolves disputes, provides rules and regulations, and enforces a disciplinary code to ensure fair and ethical play. In addition, FIFA also organizes the World Cup every four years. The World Cup is an international tournament between qualifying national teams from around the globe. The first tournament was held in 1930, but the World Cup went on hiatus in 1942 and 1946 because of World War II.
