Have there been any fires in Wenatchee National Forest?

A summer 2015 blaze in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest resulted in a federal emergency declaration, as well as the loss of three firefighters and evacuation of at least 4,000 homes. Major fires also occurred in 2014, and a 1994 blaze consumed at least 135,000 acres and burned for 33 days.

Large fires are common in the interior Northwest. The majority are caused by lightning strikes during periods of dryness, and higher temperatures and increased winds can cause them to spread rapidly. The U.S. Forest Service combats the risk of catastrophic fires by placing campfire restrictions and prohibiting fires in certain areas of wilderness during high-risk periods.
