The first Barbie Dream House was made in 1962 and retailed for $8.00. The first Malibu Barbie Dream House debuted in 1971. Mattel remodeled the house more than 10 times in the last 40 years, says Forbes.com.

The first Barbie Dream House was styled as a modern studio with tiny pink hangers in the closet and miniature records on the wall, states Forbes.com.

In the 1980s, Mattel added a pink elevator to Barbie's Dream House. In the ‘90s, the house featured a doorbell and a fireplace that appeared to be lit. A porch swing and stained-glass windows were added in 1998. The 2013 Dream House featured a custom closet and a rooftop hot tub.
